performance and enjoyment out of your Si gma lens, please read this instruction booklet
thoroughly before yo u start to use the lens.

DC LENS These are special lenses that are designated for di gital cameras because the lens i mage
circle i s designated to correspo nd to the size of t he image sensors of most digi t al SLR
cameras. The speciali zed design gives these l enses the ideal properti es for digital cameras.
◆ An image se nsor element larger than those correspo nding to APS- C cannot be used i n
digital cameras or 35mm SLR cameras. If such an eleme nt is used vignetting will occur
on the picture surface.
◆ If you use SD14, SD10 or SD10 di gital cameras, corresponding angl e of view will be
17- 34mm.
ATTACHING TO CAMERA BODY When this l ens is attach ed to t he camera body it will automatically function in the same way
as your normal lens. Please refer to the instructi on booklet for your camera body .
◆ On the l ens mount surface, there are a number of coupl ers and electrica l contacts.
Please keep t hem clean to ensure proper co nnection. T o avoid damagi ng the lens, be
especiall y sure to place the lens with its fro nt end down while changi ng the lens.
◆ Many access ories such as rear mounted tel econverters, exte nsion tubes, etc., are
speciall y made for designated lenses. Before you purchase s uch accessori es, please
check your Sigma lens to determine that i t is compatible and th at the accessori es will
function properly with it.
SETTING THE EXPOSURE MODE The sigma lens functi ons automatically after mounting to yo ur camera. Pleas e, refer to t he
camera instruction book.
FOCUSING AND ZOOMING 《FOR SIGM A AF , CANON AF, NIKON AF AND FOUR THIRDS》
This lens features Si gma’s bu ilt-in Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM). The HSM enabl es quick and
quiet autofocusi ng.
For autofocus operati on, set the focus m ode switch on the l ens to “AF” position (fig.2) (for
Nikon AF, select t he autofocus mode o n your camera body) ( For F o ur - Thirds, se lect the
autofocus mode o n your camera body and set the focus mode swi tch on the le ns to the
“AF ” posi tion).
If you wish to focus manuall y , set the focu s mode switch on the lens to the “M ” positi on.
(for Nikon AF , select the manual focus mode on your camera body as you would do
no rmally) (For F our -T hirds, select the manual focus mode o n your camera body and set the
focus mode switch on the lens to the “M ” posi tio n). Y o u ca n ad just t he foc us by turning the
focus ring.
◆ This lens also permi ts manual focusing e ven in the autofocus mode . W ith the camera
set to the One- Shot AF (AF- S) mode, you can adjust focus manually after the lens
autofocus (and stops), whil e the shutter button is pressed halfway . (I n the case of
Four-T hirds fitting, the setting method vari es depending on the camera body . Please
follow the instruction manual of yo ur camera body .)
◆ When operati ng this lens in manua l focus mode, i t is recomme nded that correct foc us be
confirmed vis ually in the viewfi nder rather than relyi ng on the distance scale. T his is due
to possibl e focus shift resulti ng from extreme cha nges in temperat ure wh ich cau se
various compone nt s i n the lens to e xpand and contact. Special allowance is made for
this at the infinity setting.
《FOR S ONY AF AND PENTA X AF 》
For autofocus operation, set t he camera’s focus mode to AF .
If you wish to focus manually , set the camera’ s focu s mode to “MF” and adjust the focus by
tu rnin g the focu s rin g.
◆ T o avoid damagi ng AF me cha ni sm , please do not turn the fo cus r ing man ua lly wh ile in
the autofocus mode.
◆ When operati ng this lens in manua l focus mode, i t is recomme nded that correct foc us be

《ZOOMING 》 Rotate the Rubber grip on t he zoom ring to the desi red positi on.
LENS HOOD A bayonet type detachabl e hood is provided with the lens. This l ens h ood helps to prevent
flare and g hosted images ca used by bright il lumination from outside t he picture area.
Attach the hood and turn clockwi se until it stops rot ati on. (fig.3)
◆ In order t o place the l ens and hood i nto the storage case , you must fi rst remove t he
hood, then replace i t on the lens in the rev erse positi on. (fig.4)
FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY Built-in flash of your camer a may not cov er angle of view of this l ens, and this may cause
light fall-off at the corners. W hen external flash is used, fli p wide pan el of your fl ashgun
down to cover flas h’s head, before taking picture.
(This may not work with some flashguns, pl ease test your equipment s hootings
beforehand)
FILTER ◆ Only one fil ter should be used at the ti me. Two or m ore filters and/or speci al thicker
filters, like a polarizing fil ter , may cause vignetti ng.
◆ W hen usi ng a polari zing filter with AF camera, use t he “circu lar” type.
BASIC CARE AND STORAGE ◆ Avoid any shocks or e xposure to extreme high or low temperat ures or to humidi ty .
◆ For extended storage, choose a cool and dry place, preferabl y with good ve ntilation. T o
avoid damage to t he lens coating, keep a way from mothball s or naphthalene gas.
◆ Do not use thinner , benzi ne or other organic cleaning agents to remove dirt or finger
prints from the lens elements. Clean by using a soft, moiste ned lens cloth or lens tissue.
◆ This lens is not waterproof. W hen you use the le ns in the rain or near water, keep it
from getting wet. It is often impracti cal to repair the internal mec hanism, lens el ements
and electri c components damaged by water.
◆ Sudden temperat ure changes may cause condensati on or fog to appear on the surface
of the lens. W hen entering a warm room from the cold outdoors, it is advisa ble to keep
the lens in the case until the temperature of the lens approac hes room temperature.
