SETTING THE EXPOSURE MODE Evaluating Meteri ng Systems which use t he whole screen to d etermine exposure cannot be
used with this Circular Imag e Fisheye Lens. E xposure can be determined onl y from the
center of the capture d scene. Therefore, Center- Weighted Metering, Partial Metering, an d
S pot Metering systems can properly sense the sce ne’ s exposure through the lens and
therefore give an accurate exposure re ading. However, Evaluating Metering Systems
(Matrix Metering, Multi-Segment Meteri ng, Honeycomb -Pattern Metering, etc.) cannot
determine the corre ct exposure through th e Circular Image Fisheye Lens. If your camera
has only an Evaluative Mete ring System, please switch to manual e xposure mode and/or
use a hand held exp osure meter .
FOCUSING 《Auto Focus 》
When you use the AF lens with the AF camera body , Auto Focusing is possibl e. Select the
autofocus mode on your camer a body (set the focus mode switch on the l ens to “AF” for
Sigma SA and Canon AF lens). In the autofocus mode, your camera will set the focus
automatically . W hile auto focusing, please do not to uch the focus ring arou nd the lens.
◆ T o avoid da maging AF mechanism , ple ase do not turn the f ocus ring manually while in
the autofocus mode .
◆ This lens has a very deep depth of field, despite its short foc al length. Although your
lens performs preci se autofocusing, this f eature might cause the lens’ distance scale to
show a different reading than the real subject - to - lens di stance.
《Manual Focus 》
Y ou can s et the focus by turning the focu s ring. Whe n you focus manually with AF lens,
select the manual focus mode on your camera b ody (set the focus mode switch on the lens
to “M” for Sigma SA and Canon AF lens).
◆ The viewfinder of s ome Nikon AF camer as have indicators t o display the focus status.
The “● ” symbol indic ates that correct focus has been set, “
► ” indicates that focus is set in front of t he subject, and “
◄” indicates that focus is set behind the subject. When this AF lens is used with Nikon AF cameras in MF mode, please adjust the lens’ focus
until the “● ” symbol is visible.
◆ When operating this lens in manual focus mode, it is recommended that corr ect focus be
confirmed visually in the viewfinder r ather than relying on the distance scale. This is
due to possible focu s shift resulting from extreme changes i n temperature which cause
various components in the lens to e xpand and contact. Special allowance is ma de for
this at the infinity setting.
PREVENTION OF FLARE AND GHOST Because of the e xtremely wide angle of view of this lens, flare an d ghosting may occur
much more easil y than with other lenses. W hen you take a picture with this len s, please
pay special attention to fla re and ghosting which ca n occur when shooting ne ar or directly
into the sun or other very bright lights.
DEPTH OF FIELD SCALE The depth of field scale helps you to check the depth of field (the zone of sharpness) of
your composition. For e xample in figure (3), the depth of fi eld zone is shown when the
aperture F5.6 is use d.
INFRARED PHOTOGRAPHY When photographing using infrared film and infrared filters an adjustment to focus must be
made. First focus in the normal way . T hen set focus switch to manual focus mo de. T urn th e
focus ring manually so tha t the distance scale marking that was previously aligned with the
focus index mark is now aligned with the infrared g uide mark “R”. (fig.4)
FILTER Filters cannot be mounted on the front of the lens. If you wish to use filters, please use
gelatin type. Pleas e cut the gelatin filter, using the guide plate acce ssory as a pattern, and
insert the filter into the filter holder a t the rear of the lens. (fig.5)
BASIC CARE AND STORAGE ◆ Avoid any shocks or exposure to e xtreme high or low temperat ures or to humidity .
◆ For extended storag e, choose a cool and dry place, preferab ly with good ventilation. T o
avoid damage to th e lens coating, keep away from mothballs or naphthalene gas.
◆ Do not use thinner, benzine or other org anic cleaning agents to remove dirt or finger
prints from the lens elemen ts. Clean by using a soft, moistened lens cloth or lens
tissue.
◆ This lens is not waterproof. W hen you use the lens in the rain or near water, keep it
from getting wet. It is often impractical to repair the internal mechanism, lens elements
and electric compon ents damaged by water .
◆ Sudden temperatur e changes may cause condensation or fog to appear on the surface
of the lens. When entering a warm room from the cold outdoors, it is advisable to keep
the lens in the case until the temperature of the lens ap proaches room temperature .
